Woods Hole Isotopes Labs is equipped with an isotope ratio mass spectrometer coupled to a gas chromatograph via an oxidation/ pyrolysis interface for compound specific work, a packed-column gas chromatograph for concentrations, an OI anylicical 1030 TOC analyzer for DOC isotope work, and a Dionex DX500 ion chromatograph for organic acid concentrations.
Gases:
Concentrations of light hydrocarbons, C1-C6, by gas chromatography flame ionization.
δ2H and δ13C of light hydrocarbons by continuous flow irms (methane, ethane, propane, and butane)
Lipids:
δ2H and δ13C of purified lipid classes by continuous flow irms (eg. n-alkanes or fatty acids)
Organic Acids:
Organic acid concentration by Ion Chromatograph (acetate, formate, propionate and butyrate)
Water:
DOC concentrations and δ13C by high temperature conversion.
Precision and Accuracy:
δ2H: 5‰
δ13C: 0.3‰
